For oil and olive trees, winter is a very important season, <\/strong>more than you can think. The cold months play a fundamental role in the quality of the oil that we will produce the next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The olive tree in winter: rest, resistance and preparation for the new season<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After giving everything in summer and autumn, the olive tree enters a phase of vegetative rest<\/strong>.\ud83d\udca4
It is not idle: it is only recovering energy, consolidating reserves and preparing the buds that will become flowers in spring.\ud83c\udf38<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nature, as we know, is a perfect, intelligent and ingenious machine: this strategic hibernation is proof of this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cold can be an ally…<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The olive tree loves the cold as long as it is moderate<\/strong>: temperatures between 0\u00b0C and 10\u00b0C help the plant to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • complete the process of growth of the branches<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • strengthen the natural defenses<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Synchronizing future flowering<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Many people don’t know it, but the quantity and quality of the flowers<\/strong> depend on the type of winter cold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A too mild winter will produce fewer flowers. A balanced winter will probably give an abundant flowering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The olive tree, however, needs a certain number of “cold hours” a day to activate bud differentiation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The important thing is that there are no frosts to burn the buds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      I go to feed my olive trees for the vegetative restart, with organic substances like Potassium and Phosphorus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \u2702\ufe0fPruning (at the end of winter) is used to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • ventilate the tree <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • remove dry or diseased branches<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • preparing the plant for production<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Between the light mist and a clear sky, the olive tree seems motionless but it’s actually working for us!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
